Purpose of Position:

The Purchasing Agent will manage all merchandise procurement and product mix evaluation activities including, but not limited to; negotiating with vendors to obtain reasonable pricing, quantities, delivery dates, review of sales data, and establishing improved procurement programs according to company policies and procedures. They will assist in optimization of inventory levels while minimizing product stock outs and maintaining high customer service levels.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Determine and manage product mix, additions, phase outs, and liquidation of items to ensure achievement of sales, inventory turn, and margin goals
  • Work closely with Item Master Administrator to ensure accuracy of all data pertaining to assigned items
  • Maintain close working relationship with the Demand Planners to ensure forecast accuracy, and systems maintenance in an environment of constantly changing products. Coordinate promotions, launches, and critical products per store
  • Negotiate and administer of purchasing contracts, vendor return programs, and advertising co-op programs
  • Maintain records of product quotations and pricing
  • Verify and execute purchase requisitions and release orders created by the Advance Supply Chain Planning (ASCP) for the acquisition of products
  • Prepare and verify receipt of purchase orders in preparation for payment processing
  • Identify and resolves potential purchasing problems; follow up to ensure timely and accurate product delivery
  • Correspond with suppliers and maintains contact with vendors regarding quotations and current status of purchase orders.  Ensures all products are shipped and delivered to meet the purchase order due date
  • Avoid stock outs, manage risk of excess inventory and expediting costs, and communicate with store level personnel on pre-season needs and post season clean up
  • Maintain an understanding of national markets and product trends impacting current performance and potential future sales
  • All other duties as assigned


Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office. 
  • Must have knowledge of the purchasing department’s policies and procedures; along with the ability to create and maintain accurate and detailed records
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication. 
  • Strong analytical and math skills
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision. 

 

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or related field preferred
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in retail management, purchasing, or similar discipline required

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include near acuity at 20 inches or less due to computer work
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will experience a moderate noise level (i.e. business office with computers, phone, and printers, light traffic)
